LocationThis is one of Irelands most beautifully situated villages and an area which is of special interest to botanists, because of the mild climate which the area enjoys. Glengarriff is one of the few areas in Ireland which still has some of the original oak forest which totally covered the country.
The village is a gateway to the Ring of Kerry and Beara Peninsula and is a picturesque village with all the charm of West Cork.
Garnish Island
The village is situated overlooking a sheltered harbour and Garnish Island, otherwise known as Illuaculin Irelands most outstanding garden island with its internationally famous collection of plants and is world renowned for its Italian Gardens often credited to the Gulf Stream which passes the West Cork Coastline.

Shops, pubs and restaurants adorn this village which is in close proximity to Bantry and Glengarriff Golf Clubs.

Things to do and see in Glengarrif
Golf
Glengarriff Golf Club is truly a club with a view! The nine holes are in one of the loveliest settings in Ireland, with scenic views abounding - the one from the fifth tee is exceptionally beautiful.
The grassy lane between the second and third holes is part of the historic ancient road between Adrigole and Bantry which also comes up by the trees which run across the course near the eight and ninth holes.
The Clubhouse was opened in 1989 by the Clubs Honorary President, Dr Maureen O Hara-Blair, the famous filmstar. Visitors are always welcome, and generally may play all day. Clubs are available for hire.
The Spinning Wheel
Visitors to The Spinning Wheel can browse the craft and gift section. There is also a fashion outlet on the premises, with well known brands stocked.
Blue Pool Ferry
This passenger ferry leaves Blue Pool at 30 minute intervals for Garnish Island in Glengarriff. Once on the island, the visitor can explore the tropical gardens.
The boats are licenced by the Department of the Marine.
Glengarriff Bamboo Park
The Glengarriff Bamboo Park is the south wests newest exotic garden. It features 30 different species of Bamboo, 12 different species of Palm trees, superb coastal woodland walks, unique views of Glengarriff Harbour, 13 mysterious pillars and much more. The Bamboo Park is a work in progress and is not yet a mature garden. Most of the bamboo in the park are giant bamboo, and every year their size increases. How tall and broad they become only the future can tell. It all depends on the local soil and climate conditions. This experiment continues a horticultural tradition which has already given Glengarriff an international reputation.
Glengarriff To Garnish Island Ferry
Glengarriff And Garnish Islands Boats Service operates daily from Glengarriff to Garnish Island and as well as providing an extra tour if required to see the seals and sealions which are in the area. Small entrance fee for visiting the island.

Leahys Fun Farm,Midleton
Leahy’s Fun Farm is a great fun day out for all the family, with a huge selection of animals to be seen as well as playgrounds, go karting, boat rides, leprechauns cave and more, there is so much to do. The Farm has a large restaurant/coffee shop and lots of picnic areas toe. See how people lived in by gone days by taking a wander through the museum sections. A 200 year old house gives a great insight into its history. There is a large newly opened adult maze and the children can feed and rub lots of animals, so come along for a nice relaxing day out.
Old Midleton Distillery
The visitor is invited to take a one hour tour of the Old Midleton Distillery, the home of Jameson Irish whiskey. The guided tour begins with an audio visual presentation (available in 7 languages) followed by a walk through the beautifully restored industrial complex, unique within Ireland and Britain.
See the fully operational Water Wheel, large Grain Stores, Mill Buildings and the largest Pot Still in the world. With the appetite suitably whetted it is now time to experience the famous tutored Irish Whiskey Tasting in the Jameson Bar.
Fota Wildlife Park, Carrigtwohill
Located just off the main road to Cobh, this Park was established in 1983 and has more than 70 species of exotic wildlife in open natural surroundings, with no obvious barriers.
West Cork Model Railway Village, Clonakilty Tour West Cork in 1 hour, in a miniature world depicting Clonakilty, Kinsale, Bandon and Dunmanway as they were in the 1940s. A model railway meandering through the 4 towns captures life in the past. Take a delightful and quaint step into the past.
