Ardgroom is a village on the panoramic Beara Peninsula in County Cork, Ireland. It lies to the Northwest of Glenbeg Lough, overlooking the Kenmare River estuary.Ardgroom is a beautiful, brightly painted and well maintained village and overlooks the Kenmare Bay on the Atlantic Ocean. Nearby, at Derryvegal Lake, freshwater fishing can be enjoyed. Throughout the whole area there is a great selection of places to eat, from pub food to world class restaurants in the gourmet capital of nearby Kenmare.
Near the village lie a number of megalithic monuments, the most picturesque of which is probably the stone circle to be found to the south west of the village which dates back to 1000BC. These stone alignments are believed to be ancient calendars. It has the name 'Canfea' but is sometimes called the 'Ardgroom SW' circle to distinguish it from the remains of another stone circle north-east of the village.
Ardgroom is the perfect base for touring the beautiful counties of Kerry and Cork.
The village of Ardgroom itself is a quaint, unspoilt traditional Irish village, with pubs and brightly painted shops which together create a very relaxing ambience.
Shore Angling - numerous fishing spots are sign-posted on the Beara coastline.
Sea Angling - deep sea boat or shore fishing is available in Kenmare River or Bantry Bay and in many well marked sites along the coast.
Walking - the well mapped Beara Way walking route passes near Beara Holiday Homes. Horse Riding - local equestrian centre located in Castletownbere.
Cycling - the Beara cycling route is well marked and bicycles are available for Hire in Allihies and Castletownbere.
Dinghy sailing - boat hire and tuition at West Cork Sailing Centre.
Genealogy - many people come to the area to trace friends and relatives and track down ancestors. The very helpful genealogist, Riobard O Dwyer, author of 'Who were my Ancestors' is often able to help. His research is considered one of the most detailed in the whole of Ireland.
Dunboy Castle - once castle home of the famous O Sullivan - Bere family, is also a lovely place to visit.
